Share for Outlook

Send files encrypted end to end, and ask people for theirs, from the email you are writing. It works on every plan, in Outlook on the web, the new Outlook for Windows, classic Outlook for Windows and Outlook for Mac. Your files are encrypted on your computer before they leave it, and the link goes into your email.

Add it to Outlook

For yourself

  1. Save the add-in's file, manifest.xml, to your computer.
  2. In Outlook on the web, open Get add-ins (in the Apps menu), then My add-ins, Add a custom add-in, Add from file, and choose the file.
  3. It then shows in Outlook on your other computers too, signed in to the same account.

For everyone in your firm

A Microsoft 365 admin can add it for everyone, or for some people, in the admin centre: Settings, Integrated apps, Upload custom apps, then Office Add-in and the link to its file, https://share-outlook.deltabreen.eu/manifest.xml.

Send files

  1. Write an email as usual, then press Share files in Outlook's ribbon, or in the add-ins menu.
  2. The first time, sign in to Share in the window that opens: with your email code, your two-step sign-in or your company login.
  3. Pick your files, how long the link works and, if you like, a password, then press Send and put the link in.

The link goes into your email at the cursor, with the files' names and size. Or, on Pro and above, have Share email each person in To, Cc and Bcc their own link, and ask them to confirm their email first; your email then says so. If your workspace rules name everyone who may open a link, Share emails each person.

With Send the key separately, the link goes into your email without its key, and the pane shows the key for you to give them another way, such as a text message. Their page asks for it.

Ask for files

Under Ask for files, pick one of your open file requests. A request open to anyone puts its link into your email. A request for only the people you invite has Share email each person in To, Cc and Bcc an invitation with their own access code. To make a new request, open Share.

Unlock once on each computer

Outlook keeps the add-in apart from your browser, so it is like a new device: unlock once with your encryption password. Links you send are then kept for your team and your other devices, and a file request's link is checked before it goes into an email.

What it can see

The add-in reads and changes only the email you are writing: it reads who it is to only when you have Share email each person, and it adds only the link or line it puts in. Your files are encrypted in Share's own page inside the pane, which runs no one else's code. Outlook and Microsoft see the link, as they would if you pasted it.

To stop it, sign out in the pane, or remove Share for Outlook under Settings, API keys and AI assistants in Share. Removing the add-in from Outlook leaves your sent links working.
