ID checks

An ID check asks a person you name to confirm who they are. They photograph an identity document and take a selfie, and Didit, an identity provider in the EU, checks both. You can add a check against sanctions and politically exposed people lists, and a proof of address.

Making a check

  1. Open ID checks and press New ID check. Type the person's email address.
  2. Pick the checks. The ID document and selfie are always in it; Sanctions and politically exposed people and Proof of address are yours to add. It counts once either way.
  3. Tick Keep a copy of the ID and selfie if you need the pictures for your records. They are locked to your workspace's key like the rest.
  4. Email it from your address, with a note, or take the link and send it another way. The link works for 14 days.

What the person sees

A page with your name and verified address, what they will need, who does the check and what you will get. They agree, including to the use of their face as biometric data, before anything starts, then Didit's page guides them through the photos on their phone.

The result

We email you when it ends. On the check's page, enter your encryption password if asked: the result opens in your browser with their name, date of birth, nationality, the document's details, how the face checks went, and the sanctions and address parts. Download the record gives you a PDF for your files, carrying the check's steps signed by us and timestamped; anyone you give it to can drop it on the verify page to see it is genuine and unchanged.

Needs your review means Didit could not decide on everything, or found a possible match on a sanctions or politically exposed people list. A possible match is not a finding: compare the date of birth and country with the list before you decide.

From code and assistants

The API, the command line and AI assistants can make a check and ask where it stands. They see its status and the page that shows it, never the person's details.

How it is kept

This is the one part of Share that is not end-to-end encrypted on the way: Didit's result reaches our server readable, since no browser of yours is there when it arrives. We lock it to your workspace's key at once and keep no readable copy, and Didit then deletes the session, face data included. You keep the result until you delete the check.

Your part

You decide why you check someone and how long you keep the result, as the controller of their data. An ID check is evidence for your own decision; on its own it does not make you compliant with anti-money-laundering rules.

How many

Pro includes 2 ID checks a month, Studio 10 and Business 25. A check never started does not count.
